The 1772 Foundation in cooperation with Preservation Connecticut, has grant funding available annually for non-profits (excluding churches, schools, and municipalities) up to $10,000 that requires a one to one match. Qualifying preservation projects are:

• Exterior painting, finishes, and surface restoration

• Upgrade/install fire detection, lightning protection, and security systems

• Repairs to/restoration of porches, roofs, and windows

• Structural foundation and sill repair/replacement

• Chimney and masonry repointing

Inquiries are due by 5pm on November 25th, 2026 through their Grants Portal shared with Connecticut Humanities. If you have created an account through their Grants Portal in the past, please use your same login, otherwise, create a new account. Final invited applications are due on February 12th, 2027. Grants will be awarded May 2027. 

NEW THIS YEAR 2026:

Preservation Connecticut is also proud to announce a new pilot program in partnership with The 1772 Foundation: the Climate Action Matching Grant. This pilot program is up to $10,000 aimed at climate resiliency projects for historic buildings and follows the same 1:1 matching requirement as the historic preservation grant. Eligible projects are:

• Energy audit assessments

• Insulation upgrades

• Alternative energy sources (solar, geothermal, wind, etc.)

• Upgraded/converted systems or appliances

• Storm windows

Water mitigation projects (wet proofing crawl spaces, gutters, site work, etc.) may be considered, but preference is given to decarbonization upgrades. Applications for lifting or relocating buildings will NOT be considered. Other projects may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Upgrades need to be consistent with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation. Applicants are encouraged to leverage programs offered by utility providers.

Letters of Inquiry will be accepted until November 25, 2026. Applicants are encouraged to submit LOIs for both grant opportunities, however, applicants will only be selected to submit final applications for one grant. Preservation Connecticut staff will review and invite applicants with the strongest applications and/or best cases for funding.

This grant will not reimburse work that is already completed or in progress. Part of the Final Application process is procuring two competitive bids for the project’s scope of work. It is highly recommended to schedule a site visit with one of PCT’s Circuit Riders to ensure a competitive Letter of Inquiry that has the highest likelihood of being invited, and a site visit is mandatory for final applicants.
