B. Danforth Ely (pictured at right) was elected President of The 1772 Foundation at its annual meeting, held on October 19 in Newport, Rhode Island. His term begins on January 1, 2013. Ely succeeds G. Stanton Geary, who served as President for 15+ years and who will remain on the Foundation's Board.
While in Newport, Foundation trustees made a site visit to The Preservation Society of Newport's Kingscote mansion, a recent historic preservation matching grant recipient. They also enjoyed a visit to the SVF Foundation (Swiss Village), which is dedicated to preserving germplasm from rare and endangered breeds of food and fiber livestock.
