Hinchliffe Stadium Designated a National Monument

Hinchliffe Stadium, located in Paterson, New Jersey, is the only remaining Negro League stadium of significance in the Northeast.  The National Trust for Historic Preservation listed it as one of America’s 11 most endangered historic sites in 2010.  The following year, The 1772 Foundation awarded the Friends of Hinchliffe Stadium a grant of $40,000 to use toward the stadium’s restoration.  In recognition of its national significance to African-American history, this year, the National Park Service designated Hinchliffe a National Historic Landmark.  Stadium supporters are working to have Hinchliffe added to Paterson Great Falls National Historical Park.
